SLO 1 Artifacts and Reflection

SLO #1

Apply knowledge of multicultural, ethical, and legal issues to using educational technologies and communication within the global community.

ETEC 525 Research Paper that shows how social networking sites have made an impact on an adolescent's identity.

ETEC 535 Case Study

that explored the issues around the National Federation for the Blind (NFB) in which they sued Amazon Kindle for not providing accessible reading devices.

Reflection

Through ETEC 525 and 535, I had the opportunity to learn about the ethical and legal issues about using educational technology and how that information is communicated. For the first artifact, I wrote a literature review in ETEC 525, where I researched how social networking sites have made an impact on an adolescent's identity. This assignment allowed me to learn about how a teenager’s identity is influenced based on the social networking sites they use. Some information included identity formation, self-representation, and the feedback they receive from others. For the second artifact, I wrote a case study in ETEC 535 regarding lawsuits that occurred for education technology that was not accessible. This assignment was beneficial for me as it showed how lawsuits are sometimes needed for changes to be made in providing accessible educational technology. As technology evolves, it is best to think of how learners will be affected by the changes that are implemented.
